Cleaning hearing aids can be a bit of a chore, but it is still something that needs to be done. If you don’t do this, you could end up experiencing a whole host of issues with your hearing aids, from clogged up connecting tubes, to issues with your microphone. As such, you need to know how to clean your hearing aids and we are going to discuss this in this article.

The ear hook

There are different parts of a hearing aid and they all need to be cleaned. When you are cleaning the ear hook, you need to be careful not to break it. Use a cotton swab to brush away any dirt that might be lingering on here to avoid any buildup. This isn’t going to take very long and there shouldn’t be much dirt to come off here.

Examine for dirt

You need to examine the entire hearing aid for any dirt or debris. You don’t want anything like this to get inside your hearing aid or it can cause problems, so if you do find something, gently use a small brush to wipe this away. If you don’t see any, you might want to brush it anyway, just to stay on the safe side. You can also use a dry cloth to get rid of this debris if you don’t have a small brush, but never use something that is wet.

Remove the batteries

You don’t want to risk getting your batteries wet so these need to be removed. If you let moisture get into your batteries, it could end up causing corrosion and this can end up causing issues with the rest of your hearing aid. Once you have taken the batteries out and cleaned inside the compartment, you need to leave this open overnight to dry. You must not put your batteries back in if you are in doubt that the compartment is dry. It’s best to wait a little longer and not risk the batteries getting wet at all.

Use the right tools

You should also be using the right tools to clean your hearing aids. If you aren’t, you may end up causing accidental damage. You can speak to your hearing health professional and they will be able to tell you what kind of tools you are going to need to complete your cleaning. You can buy these online or in certain stores, again your hearing health professional will be able to help you here. You should be taking your hearing aids to your hearing health professional to clean for you every now and then. It is like a car, you can clean it yourself, but you still take it to the mechanic to make sure that everything is in working order and to get a deep clean on all the parts you may have missed. This will give you the peace of mind that you need when it comes to keeping your hearing aids in good condition.
